Crackdown on pornographers and illegal publications

Some 13,000 cases involving pornography and illegal publications were resolved last year, with 4,000 people prosecuted, the office of the national working group for cracking down on pornography and illegal publications said on Monday.

The office also published details of 10 cases on its website, which mainly related to pirate publications and distributing pornography online.

For example in March, police in Nanjing in Jiangsu province, caught a group of six suspected of illegally editing, printing and selling books, and seized 202,000 illegal publications sold online.

The suspects were charged with operating an illegal business and the case is being handled by a local court, according to a statement on the office's website.

In another case, 42 suspects were detained by police in Shanghai in March after being found guilty of creating three child pornography video websites. The case has also been put to trial.

In addition, 147 people were sent to prosecutors by police in Heilongjiang province after it was discovered that they had made 300 million yuan ($43 million) from uploading pornographic cartoons to a paid app.
