Guangzhou airport busiest among domestic airports last year


Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport served 26.11 million passengers last year, leading domestic airports for the third consecutive year.
More than 1.88 million tons of cargoes were handled at the airport last year, the second highest among domestic airports.
As international and regional flights were resumed gradually, weekly inbound international passenger flights increased by nearly 300 percent by the end of last year, compared with the same period in 2021.
Overseas flights, including those to and from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, carried 20 percent more passengers year-on-year last year.
Twenty new domestic routes were launched from the airport last year, including those to 10 new destinations.
A number of international airlines are preparing to increase flights to Guangzhou, according to the airport management.
The airport is expected to handle 4.45 million passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel peak season staring on Jan 7.
