Rail workers in the United Kingdom kicked off the new year with a new round of strike action on Jan 3.
A 48-hour walkout by 40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) severely disrupted the return to work after the Christmas break for millions of commuters.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch warned that the government was "prepared to take risks with safety" amid the latest round of walkouts.
