Half of French Alpine ski slopes were shut over the Christmas holiday because of unseasonal temperatures and rain, particularly those located in low-lying mountains.
France's skiing industry, which relies heavily on the Christmas season for business, was badly hit. According to figures, the Alpine region generates 28 billion euros ($29.83 billion) in revenue each year, with French resorts having the second-highest share of profits, behind Austria.
