Qu Jianling, an economic crime suspect who fled overseas 27 years ago, was brought back to China on Saturday, the country's anti-graft watchdog said on Thursday.

Qu, 52, was suspected of embezzling huge amounts of public funds by taking advantage of her position as a finance management employee of a sub-branch of the Bank of China in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, said the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission.

After fleeing overseas in 1995, Qu changed her identity and traveled to many countries. She was put on Interpol red notice — an international wanted persons notice.

With the coordination of the Fugitive Repatriation and Asset Recovery Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group and international cooperation, she was caught abroad, the watchdog said.

The arrest of Qu demonstrated the Party's zero-tolerance attitude toward corruption and that the efforts of pursuing fugitives will continue, it said.
