Global olive oil production is expected to fall by 11 percent, to 2.9 million metric tons in the 2022 to 2023 crop years, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
Spain, as the world's top exporter, accounts for nearly half of global production of olive oil. Spain's agriculture minister, Luis Planas, said the cost of olive oil could continue to rise if the weather does not improve and give crops some respite.
