A youth robotics competition, held by the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People and the Chinese Institute of Electronics, kicked off on Tuesday in Beijing.

The two-week event will also include interactive robot exhibitions and online classes that promote practical knowledge on the future development of robotics. These activities will contribute to sparking young people's interest in science and technology.

Zhao Jun, director of the experience center with the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People, said that the event aims to set up a platform for young people to get closer to science, make breakthroughs and exercise their minds. The competition aims to cultivate participants' imagination and creativity.

"We hope an increasing number of young people will pay attention to the development of artificial intelligence and keep enthusiastic about scientific and technological innovations," Zhao added.

Li Yang, secretary-general of World Robot Contest, said that participants' creativity and manual dexterity will be enhanced in the event, bringing in new momentum and perspective to the development of robotics.
