SJTU unveils new tech and finance institute
The Institute of Technology and Finance was launched on Saturday by Shanghai Jiao Tong University with the support of the Bank of China.
The institute will be focused on cultivating talent with interdisciplinary skills in technology, management and finance, according to the university.
The institute will offer China's first master's program in technology transfer which focuses on technology strategic planning and science and technology financing for multiple fields such as integrated circuits, bio-medicine and artificial intelligence.
Classes for the first batch of 110 postgraduates in the program will begin in September, according to the university.
"The institute will serve as a holistic platform that combines the essences of industries, education, research, innovation and application, to identify market-oriented channels that would accelerate scientific advances," said Lin Zhongqin, president of the university, in his speech at the SJTU-BOC Technology and Finance Summit, during which the institute was unveiled.
Lin noted the institute will explore university-bank collaborations, deepen the industry-academic integration, build a tech-finance ecosystem and boost the commercialization of technological achievements.
