In Chinese culture, the tiger is considered the king of all animals, as the patterns on its forehead resemble the Chinese character for "king". Hence, the tiger was once viewed as a symbol of royalty and power. Tiger-head hats and shoes are commonly worn by children to ward off evil and bring good luck.

The placard bearers’ tiger-head hats were designed in blue and white, representing ice and snow.
