NEW DELHI - The movement of many trains was affected in some places in northern India on Monday by thousands of protesting farmers.

According to media reports, several groups of farmers blocked train tracks in areas in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

The protesters demanded the dismissal and arrest of junior federal minister Ajay Mishra over his son Ashish Mishra's car allegedly running over a group of protesters in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month.

The protests were organized by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) representing over 40 Indian farmers' union. The SKM had taken a lead in the farmers' protest against the three farm laws enacted by India's federal government last year.

SKM leaders have said that the protests would only be intensified until justice is secured.
