Landmarks to light up for Teacher's Day
China will continue its recent tradition of holding lighting events to mark Teacher's Day, which will occur on Friday this year.
The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education's Department of Teacher Education and the China Teacher Development Foundation, encourages local governments to light up landmarks, public transportation vehicles and schools from 8 pm to 9 pm on Friday.
Four cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, participated in the event when it was first initiated in 2017. On Teacher's Day last year, 245 cities in all 31 provincial regions lit up their landmarks.
Tencent and ByteDance will participate in the event this year to show promotional videos for teachers on WeChat and Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
Friday will mark the 37th Teacher's Day to honor educators.
