Pickup runs off road in Anhui, killing 12

A pickup carrying 14 passengers ran off the road in mountainous Niuzhen township of Taihu county, Anhui province, killing 12 on Sunday afternoon. Most were workers at a local tea farm, Anhui Daily reported.
Eleven people died before rescuers arrived and another died afterward in Longwan village, the county government said in a statement on Sunday evening.
The Party chief and governor of the province have urged related authorities to care for the injured and investigate the cause of the crash.
The two survivors were hospitalized with injuries that were not life threatening, the news report said, adding that a team of emergency response and public security authorities, led by a deputy governor, had arrived at the site by Monday.
