10 dead, 1 missing after being swept into sea
Ten people were confirmed dead and one was still missing after they were swept into the sea off Zhangzhou, Fujian province, the local government said on Saturday. They were among 17 people who were swept into the water while playing on a beach near Jiangkou village in Zhangzhou's Zhangpu county on Saturday afternoon, the city government said. Ten of the 16 people recovered were dead, with the other six in stable condition. The search for the missing person is ongoing, and an investigation into the accident is underway.
YUNNAN
All tunnels bored through for new line
All 10 tunnels on the Mile-Mengzi high-speed railway in Yunnan province have been drilled through, laying the foundation for the railway's opening next year. The Dazhuang Tunnel, the last tunnel of the railway, was drilled through on Thursday, China Railway Kunming Group said. The 107-kilometer railway will link the cities of Mile and Mengzi, both in Yunnan's Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture. Passenger trains operating on the railway are expected to reach speeds of 250 km per hour.

14 'comfort women' still alive on mainland
The Chinese mainland has 14 surviving "comfort women", the Research Center for Comfort Women at Shanghai Normal University said on Saturday. The day marked the ninth International Memorial Day for Comfort Women, who were forced into sexual slavery by Japanese troops during World War II. In May, three women were added to the list of survivors after researchers confirmed their experiences. "One of the old women trembled and wept at the mention of the past. She is still haunted by nightmares," said Chen Lifei, a member of the research team at the center.

65 Nanjing Massacre survivors remain
Seven survivors of the Nanjing Massacre have died this year, the Memorial Hall for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders said. Their deaths reduced the number of registered survivors to 65, it said. The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured the city on Dec 13, 1937. Over six weeks, they killed close to 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers in one of the most barbaric episodes of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
