Chinese mainland reports 71 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases


BEIJING - The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported 71 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Wednesday.
Of the locally transmitted cases, 35 were reported in Jiangsu, 15 in Hunan, nine in Hubei, six in Shandong, three in Yunnan, two in Henan, and one in Fujian, according to the commission.
Also reported were 25 new imported cases, of which seven were reported in Yunnan, four in Fujian, three in Jiangsu, two each in Shanghai, Zhejiang and Guangdong, and one each in Tianjin, Shanxi, Liaoning, Henan and Sichuan.
Two new suspected cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported in Shanghai on Tuesday.
No deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, the commission added.
China's Jiangsu reports 35 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases
East China's Jiangsu Province reported 35 new locally transmitted confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the provincial health commission said Wednesday.
Among them, three were registered in the provincial capital Nanjing, while 32 were registered in the city of Yangzhou.
The province also reported three imported confirmed cases on Tuesday.
All the cases have been sent to designated hospitals for treatment.
Nanjing, a mega-city with a population of more than 9.3 million, has reported a total of 223 locally transmitted confirmed cases since new cluster infections began to emerge on July 20 when a few airport cleaners at the Nanjing Lukou International Airport tested positive during routine testing.
At present, there are 382 confirmed COVID-19 cases still hospitalized in Jiangsu, including 362 locally transmitted cases. There are also 16 asymptomatic cases under medical observation, among whom three are locally transmitted.
