Three more parks in Shanghai will be open to the public free of charge starting on July 1, according to the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau.

The three parks are Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu district, as well as Binjiang Forest Park and Century Park in Pudong New Area.

This new development means that 392 out of the 406 parks in the city will be free to enter.

The bureau said it will work on introducing free admission policies for more forest parks in the city. Free entry will not be applicable to special parks and classical gardens due to cultural protection and scientific research reasons, the bureau explained.

Because of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures, visitors to these three parks will be required to make appointments ahead of their visit. Appointments can be made through the parks' official WeChat accounts.

Shanghai authorities have pledged to construct 120 new parks and create a better natural environment for citizens during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The city has also set a goal of creating 33.3 square kilometers of forest, 1,000 hectares of green land and 400,000 square meters of green landscapes during this period.
