Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, on Friday condemned remarks made by authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party, the ruling party of Taiwan, about a draft decision on improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong special administrative region.

The draft decision was submitted on Friday to the fourth annual session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, for deliberation.

The DPP administration denounced the decision and said it would destroy democracy and freedom in Hong Kong.

In response, Zhu said improving the electoral system in Hong Kong is to provide a sound institutional guarantee for the full and accurate implementation of "one country, two systems" and the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong".

"The DPP is used to maliciously manipulating Hong Kong affairs and disrupting Hong Kong to seek independence for itself. Their sinister intentions will not succeed," she said.
