Beijing police anti-drug efforts pay off with 3,000 suspects apprehended
Beijing police said on Sunday that in 2020, they solved more than 400 drug-related cases, captured more than 3,000 suspects and seized almost 50 kilograms of drugs.
Police officers in the capital also helped more than 600 people rehabilitate from drug abuse and provided aid for them in seeking jobs after rehabilitation, according to a statement from the Beijing Public Security Bureau.
To prevent juveniles from using drugs and being lured to participate in drug-related offenses, the bureau joined hands with the city's Education Commission, introducing anti-drug knowledge in ways for children to find easier to accept, including online classes and short videos, it said.
Thanks to satellite remote sensing technology and cooperation with 329 communities in the capital, the police also eradicated more than 800,000 wild marijuana plants, preventing potential risks in a timely manner, it said.
The bureau added that it will strengthen joint efforts with communities to ensure its anti-drug measures can reach every corner of the city and work effectively, as it is carrying out a three-year special campaign against drugs.
