The construction of a new establishment focused on improving Shanghai's disease control and prevention capabilities started on Dec 15, according to the municipal government.
The new establishment, which is located in the Hongqiao CBD area and consists of one main building and two lab buildings, signals the municipality's aim to become one of the world's safest cities in terms of public health by 2025.
Upon its completion, the new facility will serve as a command center for emergency responses, a response platform against national outbreaks of acute pandemics and a high-level research platform, said the municipal government.
