There have been "positive developments" in the disengagement process between the Chinese and Indian military forces in the Galwan Valley, in the western section of the China-India boundary, according to a Chinese military spokesman.

Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesman for China’s Defense Ministry, told reporters at a news conference on Thursday afternoon in Beijing that China and India have made several rounds of negotiations via military and diplomatic channels since the incidents in the Galwan Valley.

Both sides have agreed to follow the important consensuses between leaders of the two nations and relevant agreements, maintain military and diplomatic talks, further reduce tensions on the border, appropriately handle remaining issues, and work together to safeguard the peace and stability of border regions, he said.

The officer said China hopes that India will "walk toward the same direction" and always cherish the bilateral ties. India should give the border issues "an appropriate place" in the China-India relationship, avoid misjudgments and escalation, and take practical measures to push bilateral relations back to the normal track, Wu said.
