The so-called "primary", co-organized by leading activist Benny Tai Yiu-ting could violate the law, if it deters other people from running in the upcoming Legislative Council elections, solicitor Kennedy Wong Ying-ho said.
In addition, Wong said, many of Tai's statements made in willful defiance of the law have had a pernicious effect on the community, especially young people, who made up 40 percent of the 9,000 people arrested over the yearlong social unrest in Hong Kong.
