Peru will see more help from China to fight virus
China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Peru in the fight against COVID-19, uphold the two countries' public health security and promote economic recovery, President Xi Jinping said in exchanging letters with Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra.
In his letter, released on Friday, Xi extended his sincere sympathies to the Peruvian government and people over the massive spread of the contagion in the South American country.
Xi said that China has, at Peru's request, sent a team of medical experts to the country to help it fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The two countries should intensify their practical cooperation in various fields to deliver more tangible results in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Peru next year, he added.
In his letter to Xi, Vizcarra thanked the Chinese government for sending medical experts to his country as well as providing Peru with medical supplies, facilitating its procurement of anti-epidemic materials and sharing disease control experience.
Vizcarra reiterated that his country considers the comprehensive strategic partnership with China as greatly important, and said the two peoples will prevail over the outbreak through cooperation.
A four-member team of medical experts arrived in Lima, Peru's capital, last Saturday. The two presidents also held a telephone conversation on April 30, and they vowed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to cope with the global public health crisis.
