Mother of abused girl in NE China wins custody

Custody of a four-year-old girl in Jiansanjiang, North China's Heilongjiang province, who authorities said suffered serious injuries after being abused by her father and his live-in girlfriend, was changed to her mother, Jiansanjiang People's Court said on Friday.
It said the biological mother of the girl filed a lawsuit on May 4, requesting custody after the girl suffered severe abuse.
Through mediation led by the court, custody rights to the girl were changed to the mother.
The court also said the case of the father and his live-in girlfriend, accused of intentional injury and abuse, is in the investigation stage. After the procuratorial organ initiates the public prosecution, the court will handle it according to law.
On April 29, the Public Security Bureau in Jiansanjiang issued a notification that a four-year-old girl suffered multiple injuries after being beaten by her father and his live-in girlfriend. The two suspects were detained for causing intentional injury to the girl.
According to the police notification, the case was reported to the police on April 23, when the girl was taken to receive treatment at a local hospital.
Staff at Harbin Children's Hospital told Litchi Newson Friday that the girl is still in the intensive care unit.
