NE China couple arrested in case of man's severely abused daughter

A father and his cohabiting girlfriend accused of abusing the man's 4-year-old daughter were approved for arrest on Tuesday in Jiansanjiang, Northeast China's Heilongjiang province on suspicion of intentional injury and abuse, according to a notice published by the local prosecutor.
Local police received an emergency call reporting a child's severe injuries after she was sent to Jiansanjiang People's Hospital on April 23.
Forensic examination results showed that the girl, Fanfan, was suffering from secondary serious injuries to her head, secondary minor injuries to her nose and minor injuries to her skin, soft tissue and teeth, all caused by external forces.
After an investigation, police summoned the suspects, a man named Yu Chuanlong, 28, and a woman, Qu Tingting, 30.
The two suspects admitted that since they took the girl away from the home of Yu's parents in the province's Huachuan county on Jan 10, Qu had abused the girl in various ways because she was particularly unhappy with the child's naughty behavior and the fact that the child was unable take care of herself.
Early on April 23, Qu became angry when she found excrement in Fanfan's diaper and knocked the girl's head against the door and wall repeatedly, causing the child's severe injury.
According to the police, Yu admitted that he also had beaten the child with his hands, as well as with a USB cable and a broom, during the time they lived together.
Fanfan's mother, Zhang Lingye, said she divorced Yu in 2018, and Yu won full custody of their daughter.
Qu has lived with Yu since September 2019.
In the statement, the local prosecutor also supported Zhang's request to regain custody in accordance with the law while court proceedings are ongoing.
