Iran's COVID-19 cases surpass 50,000

TEHRAN - Iran's novel coronavirus cases rose by 2,875 on Thursday to 50,468, Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, announced during his daily updates on the state TV.

The death toll rose by 124 in the past 24 hours to 3,160, Jahanpur said, adding 16,711 have recovered, while 3,956 are in critical condition.

He urged the Iranians to register for the online screening plan for the novel coronavirus symptoms.

Iran announced Wednesday that over 67 million people, out of its nearly 82 population, have been screened for the coronavirus symptoms as part of the nationwide efforts to contain the spread of the respiratory disease.
