More research should be done on the overreaction of the immune response in COVID-19 disease, said Zhong Nanshan, China's leading epidemic control expert, in a recent video talk.
Zhong also noted that once the patients deteriorate, the survival rate is pretty low, as some of the pathophysiologic characteristics are different from usual cases of ARDS, or acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Zhong shared China's experience in the fight against the coronavirus with Dr. Anita Simonds, the president-elect of the European Respiratory Society, in an online conversation earlier this month.
