GUANGZHOU -- Wanzai Port in Zhuhai city of Guangdong province on the Chinese mainland resumed operation Thursday after a suspension of four years.
At 1:00 pm, a ferry carrying 74 passengers departed from the port to Macao, marking the reopening of the port.
Wanzai Port first opened in 1984 and closed in January 2016 due to safety concerns of the makeshift inspection shed.
Reconstruction started last September and lasted three months, said Ruan Xinwu, an official with the port.
The port opens from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, with ferries scheduled every 15 minutes.
