An ongoing exhibition is showcasing photos on exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and cities in the United States over the past 40 years.

Themed "Trans-Pacific Exchange and Cooperation", the exhibition, which takes place at Shanghai Jing'an Cultural Center and runs till Dec 28, is part of efforts to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic relations.

Images at the exhibition include former Shanghai mayor Huang Ju meeting with the then US Secretary of the Treasury Lloyd Bentsen in 1994, as well as high-ranking political figures at the federal and state levels of the US during their visits to the city.

Visitors can also view images related to exchanges between Shanghai and its sister-cities — San Francisco, Chicago and Houston — as well as those of officials engaged in bi-lateral communication in fields such as technology, education and public health.

"China-US relations are the most important bilateral relations today, and Shanghai has participated in and witnessed the development of the relations," said Jing Ying, vice president of Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

"The exhibition shows people this history and what to expect in the future."

Owen Messick, president of an US oil company doTERRA China, said the company has worked with different government departments in Shanghai which have always been supportive since the company entered the Chinese market in 2014.

"The continuously improving business environment here lays a good foundation for the company to further grow. We have always attached great importance to the communications between China and America in business and other areas, and we believe the cooperation between the two sides should be mutually beneficial," he said.
