Young woman cancels wedding-photo trip to donate bone marrow
A 24-year-old woman cancelled a wedding-photo holiday with her boyfriend so she could instead donate bone marrow at the First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University on Tuesday.
Tao Siyue, a kindergarten teacher in Kunshan, East China's Jiangsu province, was informed by a Red Cross Society of China branch that she was a match with a leukemia patient.
She immediately agreed to donate.
Tao signed up for the China Marrow Donor Program two years ago.
She and her boyfriend, Dong Liangyu, had this week planned to take wedding photos in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, but they cancelled the trip after Tao got the phone call.
Dong said they called their hotel and cancelled their boat and plane tickets because their holiday doesn't compare to marrow donation, which will save lives.
Tao's hematopoietic stem cells were transported to the patient's hospital after her donation.
