BEIJING - The Ministry of Water Resources on Friday urged local authorities in South China to guard against heavy rainfalls and possible floods.
Rainy weather is expected in the country's southern region from Friday night to next Tuesday, the National Meteorological Center forecast, adding that a vast part of the region would see rainstorms on Saturday and Sunday.
The rainfall will cause rising water levels of various southern rivers, while water levels in some areas where heavy rain is forecast may rise above the warning line.
To prepare for possible floods, the ministry told local authorities to strengthen real-time monitoring and warning, and promote the scientific use of water transfer.
