10-yr record low in Harbin's population

Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, saw a record low over a decade in its population, according to recent data.
The city had a registered population of 9.515 million by the end of 2018, with a year-on-year decrease of 35,000, said the 2018 Statistical Bulletin of Harbin Economical and Social Development released by the city's bureau of statistics recently.
Its population reached a peak in 2013 at 9.952 million, followed by a decline for two consecutive years. It saw a slight increase in 2016, but continued to drop in the years of 2017 and 2018.
The bulletin also reported that it had a resident population of 10.858 million, with a year-on-year decrease of 71,000.
