Press center opens in Qingdao ahead of Navy's 70th anniversary
A press center opened on Wednesday in Qingdao of Shandong province for the upcoming multinational naval activity to honor the 70th birthday of the People's Liberation Army Navy, according to the Navy.
The center, at Huanghai Hotel, has two parts – one for Navy officials to hold press conferences and the other for journalists to work. It offers free access to the internet to reporters.
Senior Captain Zhong Kuirun, deputy head of the Navy's publicity bureau, said the multinational naval activity will start soon and will include a joint sea parade, high-level symposiums, military music performances as well as other cultural exchanges. He said that naval delegations from more than 60 countries will take part in the event.
The PLA Navy was founded on April 23, 1949, in Baimamiao township, Jiangsu province. In 1989, April 23 was designated as the Navy's foundation day.
