At most pet hospitals an owner checks on the condition of a sick pet left overnight by making a phone call, but one hospital in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, provides cots and sofas for owners who want to stay until morning.
The AMC Center Animal Hospital in Nanjing's Jianye district has 12 folding cots and provides nurses to take care of pets at night.
Deng Yue, operations director of the hospital, said that like many people, the animals are very vulnerable after surgery and need a companion.
"It helps the animals to recover sooner if they're accompanied," she said. "Most people whose pets had surgeries in our hospital chose to accompany their pets at night."
An overnight stay at the hospital is 300 yuan ($44).
