Top legislature reviews draft decision on duties of NPC constitution and law committee
BEIJING - China's top legislature Tuesday deliberated on a draft decision on the duties of the National People's Congress (NPC) Constitution and Law Committee at its bimonthly session that opened Tuesday.
The draft decision was submitted by the chairpersons' meeting of the NPC Standing Committee.
According to the draft, the NPC Constitution and Law Committee will perform new duties such as promoting the implementation and interpretation of the Constitution, carrying out constitutional examination, strengthening supervision of its enforcement, and coordinating with Constitution publicity.
Entrusted by the chairpersons' meeting of the NPC Standing Committee, Shen Chunyao, chairman of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the NPC Standing Committee, introduced the draft at the opening of Tuesday's session.
"It is necessary and viable for the NPC Standing Committee to make a decision to clarify the duties of the NPC Constitution and Law Committee," Shen said.
