Candidate list of state leader elections finalized for voting
BEIJING - A candidate list for the upcoming elections of state leaders was finalized Friday afternoon.
The sixth presidium meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) decided by voting the final list of candidates for the president and vice president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), chairman of the Central Military Commission of PRC, as well as chairman, vice chairpersons, and secretary-general of the 13th NPC Standing Committee, said a statement issued after the presidium meeting, presided over by Li Zhanshu, the presidium's executive chairman.
The list, which the presidium decided to distribute to all delegations for discussion on Thursday, will be put for vote at a plenary meeting of the NPC session, the statement said.
NPC deputies agreed that the procedure embodied democracy and the candidates are eligible and enjoy wide support, the statement said.
The presidium also decided to put for voting a draft election method and a draft decision on the institutional restructuring plan of the State Council at the plenary meeting, and adopted a report on the handling of the lawmakers' motions.`
Before the presidium meeting, executive chairpersons held their fifth meeting, also chaired by Li.
