GUANGZHOU -- The port projects of the world's longest sea bridge connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macao have been completed, an official in south China's Guangdong Province said Friday.

Installation and testing of the equipment linking the ports and the main part of the 55-km bridge are underway, said He Ningka, director of Guangdong's development and reform commission.

He added that authorities have almost finished formulating the policy on cross-border traffic on the bridge.

The major work of the bridge was completed last month as scheduled. It took six years of preparation, and eight years to build the bridge.

The bridge will be put into operation after its port projects are taken over by customs, inspection and quarantine, and border control authorities, said Zhang Jinwen, project director with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority.

The bridge will slash travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from three hours to just 30 minutes, further integrating cities in the Pearl River Delta.
