Making a splash
China's Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang claimed two freestyle gold medals, in 400m and 200m, at the FINA World Championships in Budapest in July, becoming the first athlete in the world to have won golds in all three long-distance freestyle events (200, 400 and 1500m) at both the worlds and the Olympics. Sun later captured the 100th title of his career by winning the 400m at the National Games. Xu Jiayu also entered the history books by becoming the first Chinese man to win a backstroke world title with victory in the 100m in Budapest.
