A heavy sandstorm engulfed Beijing on Thursday, with the air pollution reaching the hazardous level. The PM10 reading in the capital in the morning exceeded 1,000 microgram per cubic meter.
The national and Beijing municipal meteorological authorities have issued a blue alert against the sandstorm. Vast regions in northwestern and northern regions, including Inner Mongolia autonomous region, provinces of Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Hebei, have also been hit by the sandstorm on Thursday.
