Dec 23-31, 1949: 1st national education working conference convenes in Beijing

Between December 23 and 31, 1949, the first national education working conference convened in Beijing. The convention emphasized the present stage education in China should support the country's construction and primarily serve workers and peasants. It was also emphasized that educational popularization would be the first on the country's list of priorities for several years to come.
