大西洋月刊记者詹姆斯·法洛斯称不管马来失联MH370发生何种事故，都不可能是马航长期实践经验不足造成的。这架航班机长53岁，副机长27岁。53岁飞行员自1981年起加入马航，累计飞行时数达18365小时。27岁副机长有2763小时飞行经验。两人都是马来西亚人。
