Then Chinese President Jiang undertook a six-nation Latin American tour to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela in April 2001. On April 6, Jiang spoke in Spanish to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, saying developing countries should boost unity and make joint efforts to set up a just and rational new international political and economic order.
