China Daily | Updated: 2014-03-06 09:14

Tourists at select attractions in Hebei province will enjoy free Wi-Fi this year, Yanzhao Evening News reported on Wednesday. Wi-Fi will be available at the Rong Mansion, a group of buildings replicated from descriptions in the Chinese classic A Dream of the Red Mansions. Tourist sites will promote the use of e-tickets, officials said.

Free Wifi coverage is just part of the greater efforts to build "smart tourist cities." Shijiazhuang, capital city of Hebei province, is listed as one of the main cities that will help lauch this campaign. This year, the Municipal Tourism Bureau will promote 4A scenic areas to become "smart scenic spots," and specific initiatives will include online ticket reservations, e-tickets, e-commerce, e-surveillance and free Wifi coverage.
