Chinese-style carnival! Guides for Snake Year temple fairs in Beijing

Dongyue Temple Fair

Venue: Dongyue Temple, 141 Chaoyangmenwai Street

Subway: Take Subway Line 2 to Chaoyangmen

Buses: Take 101, 109, 110, 112, 750, 846 or 813 to Shenlu Street

Features: The temple, originally built in 1319, houses the Beijing Folk Customs Museum. It is host to one of Beijing's most traditional temple fairs. It will feature a wide range of folk customs and activities, including drum troops, Chinese opera, acrobatics and cross-talk shows. The theme of the fair is praying for good fortune in the New Year. Folk performances include the yangge, stilts, fish dance, and diabolo. You can also buy clay, dough figurines and paper cuttings.
