The result of the Chinese election of 2016 top 10 newsmakers in disability work was revealed in Beijing on June 19. The winners were Rong Jing, Yang Decai, Sun Jianbo, Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi, Wu Gan, Tang Zhanxin, He Zhigang, Qiu Haohai, Xu Qin, and Liu Guantang.
Ten of the others also received special nomination for the election—they were Liu Xiaoqing, Lang Xiaoming, Wang Guosheng, Huang Yong, Sun Wenjin, Huang Wenpan, Wang Yongcheng, Wang Guiming, Wang Yajing, and Yang Ping. The election initially started at the end of 2016, and the results were made through online voting and experts’ voting sessions. Wang Xiaohui, editor-in-chief of China Internet News Center, said that people with disabilities enjoy equal rights in our society. They also play a vital role in promoting the economic development of our country. Guo Liqun, spokesperson of China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF), said that the living conditions of the people with disabilities in China have been greatly improved in recent years. CDPF will cooperate with the media to convey positive messages to the disabled, and allow more people to gain knowledge and hear the stories of some outstanding examples from the lives of the disabled people.
The award winners said that they would do whatever possible to help the people with disabilities and help them integrate into the society.
