Former village official seeks help from lawyer

Lin Zulian, former Party chief of Wukan recently embroiled in a corruption scandal is reported to have hired two defense lawyers.

He met and exchanged views with the two defenders from law firms in Guangdong on June 30.

Lin, 72, was detained on June 17 for allegedly using his power for personal gain and accepting large bribes while in office.

After being detained, Lin appeared in a video admitting to taking bribes totaling 80,000 yuan ($12,105.71) from a 420,000 yuan project to install rubber running tracks in local schools. Concerns over the safety of the tracks have been raised.

Lin also admitted to have taken several bribes related to land sales and construction projects. Initial investigations have indicated that he had accepted bribes valued between 500,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan.
