DongFang Turbine's power generating equipment hits a new high

The DongFang Turbine Co held a celebration for its first 300-gigawatt power generating equipment, on March 28, in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province.

DongFang Turbine is China's top power generation equipment manufacturer and is based in the city of Deyang, Sichuane. It's power equipment with a cumulative capacity of 300 gigawatts accounts for a quarter of Chin's total.

DongFang Turbine, which was established in 1966, provides steam and gas turbines for coal-fired, gas-fired, and nuclear power plants, as well as wind power generation sets. It has produced 1,200 power generation turbines and 5,217 wind generating sets.

The celebration marked the completion of the Jiajie-1 gas turbine, which is behind the 300-gigwatt output. The Jiajie-1 is part of a Jiajie gas-fired cogeneration project, which uses China's first air-cooled gas cogeneration unit and a part of a major project of Shanxi province, in 2012, for a capacity of 860 megawatts.

The company plant suffered terribly from the 8.0-magnitude Wenchuan earthquake, in 2008, but, in spite of the great losses, it managed to establish a new manufacturing base covering a 660,000-square-meter area only two years after the quake.

And, by April 2010, its equipment had a total power-generating capacity of 200 gigawatts, or twice as the cumulative capacity of 2006.

The major product of DongFang Turbine is the thermal power unit and the company is trying to produce a larger, cleaner, more efficient unit, and has already developed four models this year.

The localization rate of its heavy-duty gas turbine is above 67 percent and it is doing further research on high-temperature gas turbine blade materials and building a gas turbine compressor test bench.

DongFang Turbine is also a domestic leader in nuclear power generating units and wind generating sets.
