POWERCHINA wind project: demonstration along Belt, Road

Due to its unique geographical advantages, the East African Plateau has given Ethiopia a wealth of wind energy resources. Developing clean energy and achieving green development is a major part of Ethiopia's energy strategy, which emphasizes the concept of green and sustainable energy development.

During the construction of the project, POWERCHINA brought many "Chinese elements," such as domestic advanced technologies, equipment, and experience into Ethiopia. It also overcame a lot of difficulties covering land acquisition, transportation, and industrial infrastructure capacity with the "POWERCHINA spirit."

POWERCHINA has stood out among countries that have started construction of wind farms in the same period, and has created a precedent for the completion of infrastructure projects in Ethiopia that are on schedule, demonstrating "China speed."

In terms of local personnel training, POWERCHINA recruited and cultivated local employees. By conducting targeted training and exchanges, which greatly improved the professional skills of local employees and their understanding of wind power projects, the project has effectively realized localized management.

In the project's progress, about 2,100 local employees participated in the construction, including administrative staff, translators, drivers, chefs, technicians, and construction staff.

After the project was completed, some of them stayed at the project representative office of POWERCHINA, others were employed by the owners, and others signed long-term contracts with the wind turbine manufacturers.

In addition, the project department also provided many skilled employees with letters of recommendation so that they can continue to play a role in other foreign enterprises.

In recent years, China-Ethiopia relations have developed rapidly and have been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields has continued to deepen.

Ethiopia has become a pilot country for China-Africa production capacity cooperation and an important partner of the BRI.
