The Qionghua Folk Orchestra from Kunshan performed at the 12th International Folk Orchestra Showcase held in Ningbo city, Zhejiang province on Dec 11.

The event, initiated by the Shanghai Musician Association in 2004, has developed a good reputation in China's folk orchestral field and witnessed a boost in attending teams and musicians, from merely 800 people to more than 4,000. Attendees were initially mainly from Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, but now people also attend from as far away as Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as other Asian countries.

Being one of the 34 groups attending this year, the Kunshan group, comprising of 22 enthusiastic and talented youngsters, played Yingzhou New Rhyme for the audience, an excellent piece of music fusing traditional Chinese elements with new influences.

Although it was the first time for the Kunshan group to play at the event, the youngsters matched the high standards set by the veteran performers with their beautiful melodies lingering long in the air.
