First bamboo flute festival completes in Bacheng

Flutits from all over the country aged between 13 and 96 gathered in Bacheng on June 22 for the town's first bamboo flute festival.

The festival was themed on the title, "Bacheng waters and dreams", and featured performances by Yangchang Lake aimed at traditional music fans.

Chen Dongbao, a Bacheng native, standing on the stage in a loose black robe and bare feet, kicked off the event with the performance, Flute by Yangcheng Lake (阳澄湖的笛声).

Chen also provided musical accompaniment to performers Lu Zhenliang and Shen Liping, who sang a folk ballad originating from the north of Kunshan.

Lu Chunling, a prominent bamboo flutist south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, brought the event to a climax with a Bawu Solo, also known as Dance Music of the Festival.

Hu Yulin's performance of Bacheng Waters and Dreams (巴城水想) coincided with the theme of the festival.

Shi Lei, Ma Di, Zhou Keqi, Wang Hua, Jiang Guoji, and Zhan Yongming, top flute artists in China, also joined the stellar line-up.

Zhan Yongming played A Joyful Song on the Wujiang River, which depicts a lively scene of a glittering flowing river and jubilant crowds.
