Kunshan city in Jiangsu province is the origin of Kunqu opera, the oldest form of opera in China. There are several places in Kunshan to enjoy a good performance.

Old stage in Qiandeng town

Qiandeng town in Kunshan is home to another old stage inside the memorial hall of Gu Jian, a poet, playwright and the bellwether of Kunqu opera art. Gu Jian was a Kunshan native who lived in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368).

"Watermill tune" is another name for Kunqu opera. The building is located at the old street in Bacheng town. Visitors can listen to arias and view the exhibitions on classic pieces and famous figures in Kunqu opera history.
