Zhouzhuang Mysterious Life Museum's exhibition tour kicked off at the Poly Theatre in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, with many biological specimens on display.

The Zhouzhuang Mysterious Life Museum will officially open on Oct 1 and Poly Theatre was the first stop for its exhibition tour in Kunshan. There are three more exhibitions in Kunshan from Sept 13 to 21.

The specimens, including brown bears, hammerhead sharks and sunfishes, were transported from Dalian Jinshitan Mysterious Life Museum in Liaoning province, which has collected many precious animal specimens and is regarded as an important science education base in the country.

The exhibited animals, using modern specimen-making technologies, allow visitors to see animals clearly, including their muscle and nerve tissues, and even undigested food in their stomachs. "I have never seen such a brilliant exhibition before and I have learnt for the first time that whales have hind legs," said one of the visitors. Many of them were a little bit scared at first, although they were fascinated by specimens which illustrated the evolution of rare animal species.

A doctor said that the exhibition can not only make the public know more about animals' structures, but also provide a platform for medical personnel to communicate and learn from each other.

A national youth writing contest will also be held during the exhibition tour.

Dalian Jianshitan Mysterious Life Museum, for the first time set up a subsidiary museum outside Liaoning. The Zhouzhuang Mysterious Life Museum, attracting 220 million yuan ($35.79 million) investment, will be the first comprehensive museum of vertebrates in Kunshan, as well as the largest museum in the world that features collections and displays of marine animals, land vertebrates and human bodies.
